The cottage  is situated on a pretty slope overlooking one of the prettiest parts of the Shannon; from here the Shannon car ferry crosses to Killimer, County Clare, every hour on half-hour. The ferry service provides the opportunity for several attractive circular tours. The 20 minute journey saves nearly 130 km of road travel.  A location ideal for touring around the magical Irish counties of Kerry and Claire.

Tarbert (Tairbeart in Irish, from an Old Norse term meaning "draw-boat", i.e. portage) is a village in the north of County Kerry, Ireland, with woodland to the south and the Shannon estuary to the north. It lies on the N69 coast road that runs along the estuary from Limerick to Tarbert  before turning inland and heading towards Listowel.

The nearby island is linked to the mainland by a short isthmus the site of the boat portage that gave its name to both the island and the town. There is a  car ferry service from the island to the town of Killimer, near Kilrush in Clare. This service, operated by Shannon Ferries Ltd, provides a link between the N69 in Kerry and the N68 in Clare. The ferry is only a 3 minute drive from our cottage.

Why not spend your holiday in our lovely Irish holiday cottage. !!!
